On January 1st my family experienced an unspeakable tragedy. My 20 years old daughter Shabana was walking near our apartment when she was hit by a car going full speed and thrown across the street. The driver of that car did not stop to help her and instead fled the scene. It is now being investigated as a felony hit-and-run by Dallas Police Department. Shabana was taken to the hospital where she has remained in a-coma with a severe brain bleed. She cannot breathe on her own, and has to be on a ventilator. Her pelvis was shattered and the doctors have said it may take up to 1 year for her to wake up, if she does.
Our family has only been in the US for a few months, We came to the US to seek a better life and more opportunities. Now we are faced with trying to navigate this horrible accident and will have to pay thousands in medical bills.
Our situation is incredibly difficult because none of us have jobs right now since we are so new to the country. We were already facing the immense stress of resettling to a new country. We also do not have a car, and having access to transportation is necessary to be able to go to the hospital to visit her. In the event she wakes up from the coma she will have a long road ahead of her with lots of appointments and therapy.
The funds from this goFundMe will directly contribute to transportation costs so we can visit our beloved daughter and increasingly high medical bills our family is expecting. The doctors are keeping her under treatment before she will be transferred to Nexus Children’s Hospital where can have specialized treatment.
