Life-Saving Surgery for Maria
Donation protected
Maria Laliotis is a beautiful young woman living in Greece, who needs help from our large, giving, Greek family and friends. As a child, she received a miracle transplant from UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh. Recently, she is again in need of life-saving services from the hospital and its amazing physicians.
UPMC Children’s Hospital has contracted with the Laliotis family, and offered an agreement for their services. The estimated cost for follow-up with their abdominal transplant team which includes, but is not exclusive of, clinic visits, abdominal ultrasound, liver biopsy, and EGD is $10,000 USD.
This is an enormous sum of money, and her father, Ilias, has approached my father-in-law, Art Velisaris, about some assistance with Maria’s medical needs. Interestingly, my mother, Vicki, was friends with the family. In typical fashion, my mom reached out to the family when they visited Pittsburgh, and helped them integrate into the city during Maria’s initial transplant stay.
The good news is that UPMC Children’s further outlines their ability to provide additional important services to the family, such as assistance with travel and housing arrangements prior to arrival and upon arrival assistance with transportation to and from the hospital, 24-hour access to interpretation services, if needed as well as many other amenities, which is great.
It has been a rough year for all, but can you consider “paying it forward” and helping Maria? Time is of the essence for her relationship with UPMC, as donations need to be secured by December 31, 2020.
On behalf of the Laliotis family, thank you for your support. Feel free to share this post with family, friends, and other churches. Perhaps some of you will have the privilege of meeting the family when they come to Pittsburgh. Happy Holidays!
