Honoring SgtMaj Hoss Jejjoni, USMC

SgtMaj Hoss Jejjoni, USMC (Ret) passed away during a single vehicle accident sometime around Wednesday night, Oct 10 just outside of Yuma, AZ. He was found by the emergency crew and his fiancée, Carla, around 1 am on Thursday, Oct 11, off Interstate 8. He leaves behind a son, Jake, and his fiancée, Carla. Hoss was beloved by all that knew him. He was a tremendous spirit. A decorated combat veteran and highly respected business owner in the San Diego area. Just this year, he and Carla decided to move their lives to Phoenix and build a business there, starting anew. In the meantime, he and Carla were driving back and forth between Phoenix and San Diego to continue Hoss’ business in San Diego and start the new one in Phoenix.

Carla is a registered nurse whose California license has not yet transferred to Arizona. Based upon the plans to help Hoss open another sign shop in Phoenix, Carla was solely focused on that endeavor. She left her nursing position and contributed a good portion of her savings to business assets so that could build their lives together. Additionally, earlier this year, Carla was accidentally crushed in Hoss’ new shop in Phoenix, leaving her wheelchair-bound and unable to work for several months. Hoss, ever the dedicated spirit, had now become Carla’s nurse and helped her back to health. He wouldn’t have it any other way.

Because Carla did not legally become Hoss’ wife and that no recent will has been determined to exist, Carla is left to fend for herself. She is by herself in the house that she and Hoss were renting (while they were looking to purchase a house together), now solely responsible for rent and utility payments. Not only was she not yet Hoss’ wife and not entitled to any immediate cash payments for her living expenses, but her contributions to common business assets are now tied up until all legal matters can be resolved.

Hoss had expressed a number of times that, should anything happen to him, he wanted his beloved Carla to be provided for. Carla was the love of his life and those who have kept in close contact in the last two years have seen how incredibly happy she made him. Unfortunately, he had no idea that in peacetime that his life would be taken so abruptly, and thus had not made all the legal preparations to ensure this. I am asking all of you, his friends and his Marine Corps family, to help us ensure that Carla is not left behind.

Please honor SgtMaj Hoss Jejjoni, a true and dedicated American combat hero and honorable businessman, by helping to assist Carla during her grieving process, so that she can take the appropriate time to move back from Phoenix to San Diego and start to rebuild her life. Hoss would have wanted it that way.

P.S. LtCol Ian Stone is the administrator of this fundraising effort. LtCol Stone and SgtMaj Jejjoni worked closely together for months while they were in Iraq. Jejjoni was the Golf Company 1stSgt during OIF back in 2003 and Stone was the Forward Air Controller for Golf Company. LtCol Ian Stone's memory of SgtMaj Jejjoni during their time in Iraq:

"From observing him daily, and for anyone who knew him, his indomitable spirit and unwavering leadership was essential for the morale of the Golf Company Marines (and maybe my own too). Additionally, Hoss was originally Iraqi Chaldean and spoke perfect Arabic. Since he spoke Arabic with even a Baghdadi accent, his gentle, yet direct demeanor and ability to communicate was a tremendous asset during our combat operations, both in interacting with town elders and comforting numerous civilians. We even referred to him as “Mayor” as he became such for each town that we operated in".
