Hi. My name is Stephani Stephens and I'm the older sister to “Hippie” Steve Wisbeski. On August 24, he was in a very serious bicycle accident.

He shattered his right shoulder blade and sustained five unstable, separated rib fractures. This has left him initially incapable of doing even the simplest things for himself and his awesome dog, Albert Applesauce. He is extremely limited as far as physical abilities. Surgery is not an option right now. His recovery will be several months long.

Hippie is a 59-year resident of South Bound Brook, NJ. He’s known in his community for his generosity and helpfulness; always reaching out to give a hand to family, friends, and neighbors in their times of need. He’s also a well-known East Coast BMX legend, holding a nationally recognized contest series, “Jump for Joy,” and a dedicated supporter of the Hunterdon County BMX Association in Flemington, NJ, and a Team Sponsor.

Hippie worked in Carpenter’s Union Local 254. His co-workers called him the “Animal” because there was no job that was too hard to do or too hard of a problem to solve. He spent 20+ years working side by side with them on major industrial projects, where his sense of humor kept the crew’s morale high.

As if the accident and its subsequent physical pain and limitations aren’t enough, six weeks before his accident, both his hot water heater and furnace broke. (His BMX friends have already replaced his hot water heater.)

Right now, Hippie has little means by which to pay his mortgage, utilities, groceries, and the unknown remaining costs of his medical care and treatment, and other unexpected bills. He is not eligible for disability or unemployment benefits and faces the risk of losing his family home.
