As Sgt. Thomas was trying to help, the son "blindsided" Sgt. Thomas and knocked him to the ground. The suspect then repeatedly stomped and kicked Sgt. Thomas as he laid on the ground unable to defend himself. As a result of the assault, Sgt. Thomas received multiple facial injuries, including a broken nose, fractured orbital sockets, broken jaw, etc.
Sgt. Thomas will have to under go surgery to repair his injuries. He will also have to under go physical therapy.
The city and department will be covering his medical expenses.
But Sgt. Thomas will need additional financial assistance. Sgt. Thomas worked several hours of overtime to help support his family and help put his kids through college. His wife has been sick recently and there has been a financial burden on the family.
I would love to make and exceed the goal of this go fund me account, but anything we raise will help this dedicated officer. Sgt Thomas has given 26 years to our community and is also a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps.
This account was created and is updated by Ofc. Chilcote. Sgt. Thomas was my supervisor for 3 years. He is one of the best supervisors at JPD. He is tough but fair and he encourages young officers to find their passion in the profession. He encourged me to do "Traffic" and now I work as one of the Traffic Enforcement officers at JPD.
Please donate what you can, so we can give back to a man who has given so much.
