Daniel Casara's Warrior Vacation
Tax deductible
On Sept. 23, 2005, while on a routine mission in Southern Baghdad, SGT Daniel Casara was in an M113 armored personnel carrier which was struck by an improvised explosive device (IED) killing two Soldiers and injuring four, which included SGT Casara.
SGT Casara was at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas from Oct. 1 2005 to Jan. 31 2006 recovering from his injuries which included bilateral fractures in his right tibia and fibula, dislocated his right hip and has a titanium rod in his left leg. He returned home Feb. 1, 2006.
Despite the multiple injuries he received, SGT Casara said he does not regret his decision to enlist and stated, "...knowing what I know now, I would not have changed anything about my decision to enlist."
SGT Casara joined our unit mid-deployment after our unit suffered numerous casualties and were in dire need of additional Soldiers. I remember vividly that first day we met. My platoon just returned from patrol and we went to the day room to meet all the additions. I recall him saying, "Hey LT, when can I go on patrol with you guys?" He was anxious and excited to do his part. 2-months later he would get his chance with another platoon and that was the last time I saw him.
A true warrior in every sense of the word. He continues to give back to the veteran community and asks for nothing in return. My goal is to send him, his wife, son and mother-in-law to New York, all expense paid in August 2017.
I am asking for your help in making a tax-deductible contribution through my partner organization, Vacations for Warriors (www.vacationsforwarriors.org).
My goal each year is to send one disabled veteran and their family on a dream vacation of their choosing.
Thank you for your help!
