It is with heavy hearts we announce the loss of our own, Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Sergeant Alfonso Lopez.
On October 24, 2016, in a last act of leadership, Sergeant Lopez left Compton Station to provide assistance with a stolen vehicle pursuit. Sergeant Lopez drove his vehicle out of the parking lot, and was immediately involved in a slow speed traffic collision.
Sergeant Lopez, a 27 year veteran with the Department, was initially listed in critical condition, and transported to a local hospital. He was pronounced deceased a short time after his arrival to the hospital.
Sheriff McDonnell said, "Sergeant Lopez was a great Sergeant and person."
Sergeant Lopez is survived by his wife and children. He spent many years with the Department's Special Victim's Bureau (SVB) and transferred to Compton Station approximately one year ago.
Sergeant Lopez embodied the tradition of service and sacrifice of the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department.
Thank You guys for the support. Gabriel Lopez brother of Alfonso Lopez
