We are in the process of constructing a double-storey building in the heart of Forest Gate, Newham. This will consist of a large langar hall, prayer hall, kitchen, office, and meeting rooms. We will have a lift installed for the ease of our elderly members and aim to work with Newham to offer services to our community.

Currently, we have had several of our members kindly volunteer and work together on the building work. We have attempted to save on costs wherever possible whilst diligently adhering to health and safety procedures. The support of our community, especially the volunteers, have helped create the external shell. Currently, we have enough funds to complete the entire external shell. This includes all external roof, steel structure work, walls, foundations and drainage work.

We estimate, to complete the entirety of the internal work to create a habitable/usable space, it will cost approximately £50,000.
Internal work will include:

  • Insulation
  • Plaster boarding
  • Electrical works
  • Heating
  • Functional kitchen
  • Carpeting
  • Flooring
  • Plastering
  • Internal doors, fixtures + fittings
  • Lift

We humbly request all members of the community to donate towards this project. Every little helps, we will be forever grateful for every penny donated towards our place of worship.

Our charity was founded in 1965 as a small community of first-generation Commonwealth emigrants from Africa and India of the Ravidasia community decided to celebrate the Anniversary of Shri Guru Ravidas Ji’s birth together.

Following the success of this event, the community decided to meet on a regular basis to worship and share the teachings of Shri Guru Ravidas Ji.

This started with approximately 10-12 families gathering in the name of Shri Guru Ravidas Ji in a small premises on Warwick Road, Forest Gate; fast-forward 40-years, we purchased our current premises and continued to worship in our single-storey building.

In the recent years, we decided to expand into a double-storey as our Sangat (congregation) has increased auspiciously. We believe having a large langar hall - opposed to our current kitchen and small dining area – would make for more comfortable dining as well as allowing more space for activities such as language classes and offering the premises to the community to use during the weekdays.

‘Langar’ is a communal meal available to all, regardless of belief or characteristics. The meal is free and is intended to be a blessing for all. We will continue to offer this to the entire community.

We aim to liaise with Newham and offer legal, medical and social services to the elderly and vulnerable. Throughout the pandemic, we donated cooked meals to The Welcome Project in Ilford, where the meals where distributed to the homeless and low-income families. We continue to do this and hope to be able to collaborate with other charities wherever possible.

Once open, we will post updates for everyone who wishes to join us in our services, regardless of faith, everyone is welcome.

Thank you very much for taking the time to read, we'd be very grateful if you could share this post on.
