Help me circumnavigate the world!

Donation protected
Hi, I'm Dianne McGrath.
I lead a purposeful life to create better environmental outcomes. Towards this goal, I am a leading sustainability expert with a PhD in Environmental Engineering and part of Stop Food Waste Australia - trying to help Australia halve our food waste.

In 2023-24 I’ll be in a record-breaking 40,000 nautical mile race around the world on one of eleven 70-foot ocean racing yachts, leaving in the late UK summer of 2023, returning 11 months later in July 2024 after reaching every continent bar Antarctica, and completing six ocean crossings.

What does the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race entail?
There are eleven identical boats, each with 18-20 crew members (8-9 of which are circumnavigators like me), in a competitive race series starting in the UK in late northern summer 2023 and racing around the globe and back to the UK in mid-summer 2024 in the following eight legs:
  • Leg 1. The Atlantic Trade Winds Leg: the UK to South America (approx 33 days)
  • Leg 2. The South Atlantic Challenge Leg: South America to South Africa (approx 18 days)
  • Leg 3. The Roaring Forties Leg: South Africa to West Coast Australia (approx 23 days)
  • Leg 4. The Australian Coast-to-Coast Leg: West Coast Australia to East Coast Australia (approx 20 days)
  • Leg 5. The Asia Pacific Challenge Leg. East Coast Australia to China (approx 34 days)
  • Leg 6. The Mighty Pacific Leg: China to USA (approx 37 days)
  • Leg 7. The USA Coats-to-Coast Leg: West Coast USA to Panama (approx 19 days); Panama to East Coast USA (approx 19 days)
  • Leg 8. The Atlantic Homecoming Leg: East Coast USA to UK (approx 22 days).

The Clipper Race partners with many organisations for race logistics, yacht maintenance, training, and community outreach programmes and charities. Unicef is the Official Charity Partner for the Clipper Race, with over £1 million raised to date.

I want to tell inspirational stories
To help people see our world differently: more sustainably.
These will be the stories of people creating the winds of change to protect our oceans, planet, and future. People I'll meet before the journey, during the race, in port and afterwards.
