I am raising money for about 24 middle school students who have given their best efforts playing chess in an after-school chess club. I would like to recognize their efforts and inspire them to play more chess, by awarding trophies for the winners of the games and for their active participation in the club's activities at the end of this school year. The cost of the trophies totals $180 ($7.50 for each trophy). I believe that the value that each student receives is more than the cost of the trophy. I believe that this will mean a lot to their self-esteem, to their belief in themselves and their ability to persist through challenges and difficult situations. Receiving a trophy for hard work, effort and persistence reinforces the message that if one just tries and keeps at it, success is never too impossible to reach.
