A Promise To Peggy

So much, so fast.

Who in the world could imagine that a knick in the skin from shaving would lead to a rare bacterial infection, causing multiple incidents of sepsis and ultimately the loss of a leg in less than a year?

And that shortly after adjusting to this loss and when finally home again, a fall from her wheelchair would cause not only the bones in her good leg to shatter but the bones in the knee of her stump as well?

Then, after three months back in the hospital with an external fixator so her leg could heal, was informed that due to osteoporosis, she would never be able to stand and bare weight on her leg again, meaning confinement to a wheelchair for life.

This shouldn't happen to anyone, but it did.

It's been tragic to watch my friend Peggy Harper not only lose her independence and ability to walk but just as meaningful, the capabilities to stay employed as a Post Acute Nurse.

I met Peggy in nursing school and can tell you, NOTHING meant more to her than getting her license so she could take care of others. Not only has she demonstrated this in her nursing duties but as CNA (Certified Nurse Assistant) instructor as well.

Peggy is finally home after being in the hospital and skilled nursing and is now trying to figure out how to move forward. Being unable to work, she has lost her nursing job income. Her disability has run out and reapplication is a lengthy process, if approved at all. Peggy's insurance requires her to pay 20% for home health costs.

No funds are coming in now for medical bills, treatment and care.

What Peggy wants to be able to do right now is to continue healing and regain her capabilities until she's strong and well enough to plan the next steps of her life. She is dedicated, determined and committed to finding a way to return to nursing as best as she can.

At this point, she needs our help and financial support.

From Peggy:

"Anything you can contribute so I can go home again safely is appreciated. I've spent my entire career taking care of others and now I am asking you for help."

I made a promise to Peggy that I would help by reaching out to as many people as I could, to ask for help and support.

Please give, along with me, whatever you can so Peggy gets the medical help and treatment she needs as well as afford her basic needs until she reestablishes her life and regains income.

Thank you!!!!!
