Who Are We

The Student Alliance is the junior, student-led sub-section of the San Francisco Collaborative Against Human Trafficking (SFCAHT), a cross-sector coalition with membership of over 70 Bay Area agencies from law enforcement, government, and nonprofit sectors committed to ending human trafficking. We unite students from middle and high schools across the Bay Area to fight human trafficking through collaboration, education, outreach, advocacy, and direct support for survivors. Our mission is to empower young people to take action, raise awareness, and inspire others to join the fight against human trafficking in our communities.

What is Human Trafficking

Human Trafficking is the exploitation of people through force, fraud, or coercion for the purposes of commercial sex or forced labor. Any person under age 18 who performs a commercial sex act is considered a victim of human trafficking, regardless of whether force, fraud, or coercion was used. People do not have to be transported across borders for trafficking to take place. It can occur within a single country or community. Trafficking can take many forms, including sexual exploitation, forced labor, begging, drug dealing, domestic servitude, forced marriage, and organ removal. According to the International Labour Organization, an estimated 27.6 million individuals were victims of human trafficking globally in 2022.

Specialized data analysis from all sources indicates that San Francisco is a national hub for human trafficking. In addition, the FBI has identified San Francisco as one of the 13 major hubs for child sex trafficking in the United States. While the explosion of human trafficking in our backyard is undisputable, the victims remain largely hidden from plain view and are afraid to report the crimes committed against them.

The Hotline

To encourage reporting of human trafficking, facilitate identification of the victims, and provide a venue for them to quickly receive services and protections, a multidisciplinary team of SFCAHT created the 24/7 San Francisco Bay Area Human Trafficking Hotline and Resource Center, a Bay Area-wide coordinated referral platform operated with the collaboration of NCJW San Francisco, which confidentially and safely assists survivors of human trafficking and their support networks, at-risk individuals from marginalized groups, and community members reporting suspected human trafficking. The Hotline provides accessibility in over 240 spoken languages and, through its collaborative protocols, utilizes referrals to Shelter and Long-Term Housing Services, Legal Services, Mental & Physical Health Services, Case Management, Safe Space, Food and Clothing, and Child Protective Services, Transitional Youth Services, Law Enforcement Assistance and Protection.

Why We Need YOU

The Hotline is a vital resource in our community, and we cannot afford to lose it. However, the overall cuts in the city and state budget this year resulted in a substantial reduction of the Hotline’s funding. If we don’t raise the missing funds, we will have to close the Hotline, and no viable alternative will be available to replace it. This will be detrimental to the survivors and at-risk individuals in our community, and we are committed to preventing it from happening.

Please help us to raise the missing funds that will allow the Hotline to continue to answer the 24/7 calls of survivors in desperate need of support. Our goal is to collect enough funds to keep on staff one victim advocate covering a shift on the Hotline. To achieve this goal, we need to raise $25,000.

By supporting our fundraiser, you are helping us to save lives and make a real impact in the fight against human trafficking. With your support, the hotline can continue standing by survivors of human trafficking, offering hope, safety, and the chance to rebuild lives.
