Our mom, Penny Lu (Schulz) Moore, passed away September 4, 2016 after a valiant battle with melanoma. Please help us raise money to further youth sewing education in her name.
Since our mom passed away (far more quickly than we were prepared for), we wanted to take our grief and use it to create a legacy for her that would help show the world how amazing she truly was. So many of our friends and relatives asked if there was a charity we wanted donations for, but those big charities have corporate sponsors and walk-a-thons and celebrity endorsements to help them achieve their fundraising goals. We know that we aren't talking about thousands of dollars in our mom's name, so we wanted to choose somewhere that our donation would make the biggest impact. What a difficult thing to have to decide - what is the one issue that represents a whole person the best? And yet, the answer was so easy to see when we finally came up with it.
Penny's proudest accomplishment in life was being a mother to her daughters, and later, the most amazing Gramma to her three grandchildren. What brought her great joy, outside of her family, was sewing and cooking and giving her handmade creations as gifts. There are so many people out there in the world with something she created just for them, from baby goodies like blankets and burp cloths and bibs, to curtains for their home; from bridesmaid dresses and prom dresses to pot holders; and her most recently acquired passions - from quilted tote bags to beautiful lap quilts and bedding. She absolutely delighted in giving something she'd made with our own hands to someone else who would cherish it.
It is her unwavering love of sewing, which for her began as a young girl, that inspired us to choose a local school program as her "in lieu of flowers" recipient: Hope Lutheran School - Glendora's sewing elective program. All monies raised will be used to further the sewing elective taught at the school, which is almost entirely donation driven - from machines to fabrics and notions. Instructors can't always be donated, and it is that cost that often keeps electives such as these from being sustainable. We want to see more young people exposed to how incredible sewing can be, and the type of impact it can have on your life. Our mom's love of sewing helped her through all the peaks and valleys of her life, and we know that she has more people to touch with her gifts. Please help us keep her passions alive by donating to this amazing program in her name!
