Hope for Harvey
Hello friends!
As some of you may know, Harvey Michael Fidoruk was born 10 weeks early due to a spontaneous placental abruption, in the early morning hours the day after Thanksgiving. After 8 long weeks in the NICU, Kayla and Kevin were able to finally bring their sweet baby boy home. Already a fighter, he’s grown from 3.4 pounds, 15.25 inches long to the happy 12.5 pound baby that he is today!
Unfortunately, Harvey’s not quite done with hospitals yet. He has recently been diagnosed with SCID, Severe Combined Immunodeficiency. SCID is a very rare disease caused by a genetic deficiency. Only around 50 children a year are diagnosed with SCID in the U.S. Children with SCID have significantly reduced or depleted immune systems. The lymphocytes are severely reduced and are not properly functioning. This leaves Harvey’s immune system unable to fight off any bacterial, viral or fungal infections.
Thankfully, Harvey has a wonderful health team in Louisville and they were able to diagnose him early.
In the next month, Harvey will begin 10 days of chemotherapy. Once chemotherapy is completed, he will then undergo a stem cell transplant. He will be in the hospital for approximately 6-8 weeks. Harvey’s medical team has found him a perfect donor match for the stem cell transplant. The stem cell transplant will replace his unhealthy immune system with a healthy one so he can fight off any infections. After the stem cell transplant, Harvey’s body will begin producing functioning lymphocytes and will continue to progress over the next year.
Due to Harvey’s diagnosis, Kayla is unable to work and has no plans in the foreseeable future to return. Kayla and Kevin want to protect Harvey as much as they can while he gets big and strong and thus cannot have any childcare at this time.
While there is a great treatment plan in place, it’s going to be a long journey for Kayla, Kevin and Harvey. Since they can’t have any visitors outside of their immediate family, they need our help. Your donation towards this fund will go directly towards their medical bills, house bills, clothes for Harvey and food. All of this will be greatly appreciated when they are working hard to keep Harvey healthy.

Kayla and Kevin know how much everyone would love to physically be with them to help but they really appreciate all of the love and support they have gotten from afar. They are so lucky to have such wonderful friends and family!
Kayla and Kevin have been there for so many of us over the years. Whether you've known them for 1 year or 30 years, you know that they are both the most fun, goofy, caring, compassionate and loyal friends around. I know that Harvey has the absolute best parents looking out for him. Now we all just need to look out for them.
