On March 24th our parents, Mike and Kim Barnhart, and brother Scott, along with their pets, were suddenly displaced due to an extreme sewer backup event that flooded their home with community hazardous waste and water -- through no fault of their own.
Their home is unlivable and will take nearly 2 months to repair and remediate of biohazards. Wastewater soaked through the subfloor and destroyed the AC unit, ducts, flooring, baseboards, and lower portions of the walls, along with cabinetry and fixtures. They are unable to return home and have to immediately seek new temporary housing. Their pets, including 2 special needs animals, will need to be temporarily re-homed.
Home insurance will cover only a small portion of the costs resulting from this sudden upheaval, but much more is needed to cover the high cost of repairs, vet and health bills resulting from exposure to hazardous waste, and temporary housing. We truly appreciate anything you can spare to help Mike, Kim, and Scott alleviate costs and care for their pets until they can return to their home.
