Sew For Survival- Teaching women to sew & earn
Donation protected
Salaam & Hello everyone!
My name is Farzana and I am a teacher, currently teaching in Qatar.
During the lockdown myself and my friend & colleague Irum Samina discussed way of supporting others more needy; however, rather than just giving out a handout, which may help them for a day or 2 or maybe a week we wanted to look at ways where we can help those in difficult circumstances become self-reliant for the long term and earn a living in a halal way.
We initially had the idea of providing free sewing machines to women in extremely poor backgrounds in a remote village in Pakistan. Although we found that with little or no training or experience they would struggle to use the machines effectively to earn a living. We then decided to not only provide young women with free sewing machines but to also give them high quality sewing training over the course of 3 months, which covered the training from basic level to master level, with a test at the end of the course and free machine for them to begin earning.
The Hadith of the Prophet ﷺ is:
“When a person dies, all their deeds end except three: a continuing charity, beneficial knowledge and a child who prays for them.
The donation of the machine will inshallah act as the Sadqa Jariya; as you can see in the image below the machine can also include a dedication for your loved ones. Through the donation you will not only support a young woman to become self-sufficient but also their families.
There are various ways you can support:
· Sponsor a young woman for the 3 month course and a free machine for £100
· Donate a free machine for £30
· Donate a free sewing kit for £10
Or please feel free to donate whatever you are able to; every donation however small will inshallah make a difference.
Thank you for reading and we look forward to your support!
