Our beloved escape into nature Elk Island Retreat has been hit by a severe weather event causing significant damage throughout. Let’s band together and raise money to help the Hanneman family rebuild and restore the land back to its former glory!
Funds will be used to buy equipment that will be used to clear hundreds of downed trees and forest restoration and replanting over the coming months and years.

The recent storm changed the landscape of Elk Island Retreat, damaging areas of the property and taking down trees that had been part of this place for years.
Now, we’re beginning the work of restoring what was lost, rebuilding what was damaged, and planting new growth for the future.
Every donation makes YOU part of the next chapter of Elk Island Retreat.
ALL DONATIONS WILL RECEIVE:
PLANTER — $100+ Donation
Help us plant the seeds of restoration and new growth throughout the Retreat.
As a thank-you, Planter donors will receive:
- A $10 Elk Island Retreat gift certificate
“I planted the seed, Apollos watered it, but God has been making it grow.”
— 1 Corinthians 3:6
BUILDER — $500+ Donation
Help us take a bigger step toward rebuilding, restoring and preparing Elk Island Retreat for the generations still to come.
Builder donors will receive:
- A $50 Elk Island Retreat gift certificate
CORNERSTONE — $1,000+ Donation
Cornerstone donors are helping lay the foundation for the next chapter of Elk Island Retreat through a significant contribution to the restoration.
Cornerstone donors will receive:
- A $100 Elk Island Retreat gift certificate
- Named recognition on our permanent group restoration plaque
- A tree planted in your name as part of the restoration
- The geo location of your tree, so you and your family can return in the years ahead, find it and watch it grow
The Cornerstone name reflects the biblical image of a strong foundation upon which something lasting can be built.
Restoring the Landscape
A meaningful part of this campaign will support the restoration of the natural landscape, including replacing trees lost in the storm with a mixture of spruce and native deciduous trees such as birch.
Once the campaign is complete, a permanent restoration plaque will be created at Elk Island Retreat to recognize everyone who helped make the restoration possible, with special named recognition for our Cornerstone donors.
How It Works
When you donate, we’ll collect your name and email address so we can send your applicable Elk Island Retreat gift certificate.
Cornerstone donors will also be asked how they would like their name, family name or business name to appear on the permanent group restoration plaque. Once restoration planting is completed, we’ll provide the location of your designated tree.
The restoration campaign will remain open until November 15, marking the end of Elk Island Retreat’s season.
Planting what was lost.
Rebuilding what was damaged.
Laying the cornerstone for what comes next.
Thank you for becoming part of the restoration and the future of Elk Island Retreat.
