Severe Diabetic Ketoacidosis won't stop Rex!

Donation protected

Our young buddy Rex Bishop (age 9) needs his community more than ever.

The lethargy, lack of appetite, and severe thirst Rex was experiencing over the last week is what they now know is severe diabetic ketoacidosis. His blood sugar registered 351 at St. Anne's E.R. in Burien (a healthy range is up to 90), all of his electrolytes were nearly depleted, and his heart was struggling to do its job. Rex was rushed by ambulance to Seattle Childrens, where he is now in the ICU receiving fluid and insulin. He has been diagnosed with Type I Diabetes (Juvenile).

He is still in still in the ICU, the medical bills have yet to be determined, but will likely be overwhelming. Rex will stay at Seattle Children's over the next few days - maybe more. His blood sugar continues to decrease (a good sign!) and his potassium is up (another good sign!), but his pancreas is in rough shape.

Rex has a long journey ahead of him. Once he stabilizes, they'll move him into a regular hospital room. At only 9 years old, he'll start down his journey of learning about diabetes and how to manage it. He's a good kid so we know he'll be able to handle it, but it will be quite an undertaking for a guy so young.

The main thing Rex and Krystal need to focus on right now is recovery; it's our job to focus on filling in the rest. We're currently save up for the impending mountain of medical bills from the ER visit, ambulance, ICU, and in-patient care at Seattle Children's. The family will be looking into all the avenues for financial assistance through both St. Anne's and Seattle Children's hospitals. From there, the funds will go towards continued care for Rex and the family.

This campaign brings together all those who love Rex, Krystal, and the rest of the family. Rex and the family appreciate the outpouring of love and support. He can hear everyone cheering him on from the ICU.

About me:
I'm Noah Wagoner, a local  friend of Krystal Marx, Rex's mother. I started this campaign after seeing the overwhelming support of her friends following her Facebook post about Rex. Krystal agreed to let me set this up on her behalf while she focuses on caring for Rex. She has been named the beneficiary and all funds (both online and offline) will be disbursed to her directly.
