Seth’s Brain Surgery Journey & Recovery
Donation protected
Seth has recently been admitted to the ICU in Ames Iowa, for numerous concerning complications, where he was then transferred to Mayo Clinic, in Rochester, MN. They found an abscess in the brain around the pituitary. This abscess has now grown in size, through the bone, and is leaking into the spinal cord, also leading to meningitis. An immediate surgery has been scheduled for (3/7/24) to remove this abscess.
For those that don’t know, Seth has been enduring an ongoing battle with his health that has disrupted his life greatly. Seth has been unable to return to his physically demanding job for a year now. The strain this has put on their family financially has been growing steadily, especially now that he will need the support of his wife, causing her to be away from work, while he recovers. If you would like to donate to help Seth, his wife Kate, and their son, Roman, please donate and share! Every bit counts!
Update 03-07-2024:
Seth’s surgery went well, they drained the abscess around his pituitary. Thankfully, because of where this abscess was located and because it had already eroded into his nasal cavity, they performed the surgery through his nose rather than having to go through his skull.
Seth was awake and alert very soon after surgery.
They found that his pituitary gland is in incredibly poor condition and may not ever fully recover. His body will need daily supplements of hormones and consistent endocrine care for years, if not for life. Seth will definitely remain in the hospital for several days so they can keep careful watch over him.
The neuro ICU has kindly bent the rules and allowed Seth’s wife, Kate, to stay with him during the night because she has made their jobs so much easier in caring for Seth. Until his fever went down and his antibiotics kicked in, Kate was the only thing that could get him to stay still, or even respond to most questions. Her presence has made him feel safe and understood and has helped him heal faster already.
Thank you so much to everyone who donated or shared the GoFundMe. Everyone’s love and support has been a relief to Seth and Kate already as they begin this recovery process.
