2027 will be the fourth year that we have exchanged students with our friends in Sète, France, a lively picturesque and welcoming city that not only has its own oyster bay, but is a bustling port,
Students present their science projects in French, stay with French families and participate for one or two days in a French school.
Those same students from Sete visit Pleasantville and enjoy another culture, a different approach to education and of course visit New York City ! The bonds between students and an a shared empathy for another culture last forever.
In 2026, we participated in the Escale à Sète where sailing ships from around the world came to visit the area. The experience was uplifting and entertaining as traditions ranging from bagpipes from the north of France to dances from the south spread across Sète. The sense of pride and community, the smell of fresh roasted fish and the music from traditional instruments suffused the air around us.
Our hosts helped our students experience a day at the local Joliot Curie high school, where we learned about the differences in education systems and ate oysters from the school cafeteria for lunch.
We use all of our funds to enable travel for our teachers and students from Pleasantville and to support social events when our Sete colleagues visit us. We are all volunteers from the area.
Please help us raise the funds for the SetePleasantville Collaborative which is registered as a non profit with the IRS and New York State.
