Help Build Inclusive Learning Resources in Rwanda!

Hello, my name is Kenyah Nyameche. I am a psychotherapist, writer, public speaker, public governor, and advocate for different learning abilities (WFDA), including ADHD, autism, dyslexia, dyspraxia, and more. As a neurodivergent professional living with dyslexia and dyspraxia, I was first diagnosed with dyslexia at the age of 40, so I can appreciate the need for earlier support in education and employment. I am Black British of African heritage.

For the past two years, I have been working on a project in Rwanda focused on raising awareness of different learning abilities within education, employment, and the community. I am currently raising funds to further develop this international project in Rwanda.

With the generous donations of books, DVDs and calming gadgets from libraries, charities, businesses, and authors, I aim to equip a learning space to raise awareness of diverse learning abilities, improve education and employment outcomes for all, and enhance access to materials in libraries in Rwanda on the range of diverse learning abilities and the types of adjustments needed for equal access to education and employment.

About the Project
Our services include information sharing, advocacy, counseling, consultancy, training, events, and resource sourcing.

Stage 1:
Through desk research, I have identified a high rate of students repeating school years and subsequently dropping out due to several possible reasons, including poverty, language barriers at home (where English is not spoken), parents’ education, physical disabilities, and potentially unidentified learning difficulties. Miscommunication regarding student behaviours in the classroom also play a role. This issue is not unique to Rwanda; similar challenges can be seen in other African countries and the Caribbean.

Why Rwanda?
During a recent holiday, I encountered a couple who needed assistance for their child at risk of repeating a year due to visible learning difficulties—specifically, dyslexia, which affected their daughter’s ability to write and posed a significant threat to her mental health. I supported the parents with a school visit, a presentation on dyslexia, and follow-up collaboration with teachers and parents.
Our project is raising awareness through pop-up hubs in various workspaces and international schools; online talks, face-to-face consultations, and employment events.

To date, this project has been self-funded.

Phase 2:
  • Setting up a charity
  • Sharing outcomes with government departments
  • Development: Hiring and equipping a learning centre for awareness, training, consultations, hubs, and art initiatives
  • Library outreach
  • Consultations with schools to raise awareness about the rights and needs of individuals with different learning abilities.

Our Mission: Advocating for inclusive policies, access to resources, emotional intelligence, and accessibility in education, employment, and public spaces.

Rwanda to Wakanda (Wakanda Forever): the opening video is one example of our learning projects working with 52 pupils from different schools, ages 11-15, of different abilities; some attendees were also carers for parents with disabilities, to help demystify STEM in education.
