Brandon's Recovery
Donation protected
Hello, my name is Jennifer Mylott. I'm starting this fundraiser for my little brother, Brandon Shevlin. Those of you who know Brandon know what a kind, good hearted, warm, funny, smart and amazing person he is. I am so proud to be his sister. Unfortunately, on December 9, 2015, one month ago today, tragedy struck Brandon, It's a scary world we live in sometimes. It makes you wonder how bad things happen to good people. Brandon was the victim of an attempted robbery and attemped carjacking. When he refused to give this criminal his money or car, he tried to get away and was shot and critically injured. The bullet went into his arm, thru his chest, collapsing his lung, causing internal bleeding, before getting lodged in his spinal column directly behind his spinal cord. This left him paralyzed from the chest down. The doctors have decided not to remove the bullet in fear that they would damage the spinal cord. For the past month, Brandon was in the ICU and then in the rehab center. Brandon is a fighter!! He has proven that every day since the shooting. Today is Brandon's first day home. He has made some progress but still does not have the use of his legs. He is in for a long road of recovery ahead of him but with his positive attitude and determination, I know he will get thru this. Now that he is home, he will have to learn how to do things differently by being in a wheelchair. Ramps, medical supplies, and other items are now needed so that he can do his day to day routine. I can't even imagine how hard it will be for Brandon and for my mother, step-father and my brother, who will all be helping him in his fight to regain his mobility on a daily basis. Many friends and family have asked me how they can help and I wasn't sure. I was astonished at the amount of people wanting to donate and help. I've had several suggestions to start a gofundme fundraiser for Brandon to help offset some of the costs already incurred and future costs that will be coming. I found wonderful success stories on gofundme and decided that people were right. So many people love and support Brandon and want to help and they just didn't know how. My family does not know that I'm starting this fundraiser, and I hope they will not be upset. But Brandon has so many people that want to help. People love him and care about him and want to show their support and this is the best possible way for him to see that. I truly thank you all, from the bottom of my heart, for your kindness. Brandon, you are a fighter with a beautiful heart and a great optimistic attitude. You will get thru this!!! We all love you!
