Last weekend, we received the sad news that Rudolfo "Rudy" Torres unexpectedly passed away. He leaves behind his beautiful family, his daughter Eva and wife Cassandra, and countless other friends and chosen family that he touched in so many ways. As a special education and tutor, he also leaves behind so many students and families that he helped along the way.
Rudy was born in Cuba and raised right here in Astoria. He was Queens through and through - a product of our public schools and colleges. While he was quiet and reserved, he wasn't shy about entering a hearty debate and brought passion, intensity, and conviction to every conversation. He loved good food and good company, but more than anything, he loved his family. He adored his daughter Eva and was so proud of all of her accomplishments. He often took her and her best friend to all the fun NYC places like Coney Island, the Astoria pool, the Rockaway beaches to show them the city that he enjoyed himself as a child.
Cassandra and Eva need some assistance to pay for the cremation costs, and need this fairly soon. They are heartbroken and crestfallen, and any contributions will help alleviate one less financial burden that they will have to navigate. If you could help in any way, this will be greatly appreciated.
