My name is Wendi and I have a psychiatric service dog named Hunny. She is an 11 month old Mini Goldendoodle and just became certified as my helper. I got Hunny to be my service dog after losing my husband to suicide last August 2022 and she has been my lifesaver.

This morning Hunny was hit by a truck. She is in critical condition at an emergency vet a hour from me because this veterinary ER has a surgeon that can operate on her hip once she is out of the woods. She has pulmonary contusions and had to have air and blood drained from both sides. Her hip joint is fine but the hip BONE is broken longitudinally and looks really bad on the X-ray. A portion of it has slid very close to where her spine meets her tail bone, meaning her nerve endings could be impacted. The hip surgeon hasn't physically examined her yet, but she has seen the X-rays and thinks that barring any complications Hunny would do well with surgery. The ER vet also said that Hunny has moved her leg with the broken hip which is a good sign neurologically. She is in an oxygen incubator (think baby icu) and they are hopeful that she will be okay but the next 24 hours are crucial. The cost to date is close to $5500 and includes the next 24 hours in the ICU. This initial cost could be upwards of $7000 depending on how she does over the next 24 hours. The surgery will be an additional $8000-$10000. She will then need to be crated for 12 weeks to keep her hip stable while she recovers. Prayers are much needed and appreciated.
