Team Tirrell is raising funds for a PTSD service dog for an amazing wife and mom of 4. She is a survivor of sexual violence who was diagnosed with PTSD in her early twenties. Her PTSD became severe accompanied by panic attacks with debilitating pain between 2016 and 2018 after becoming an adult victim of clergy abuse in Michigan . These episodes resulted in many ER visits and lost time at work for her husband. She has also lost precious time with her kids. The Tirrell family has been considering a service dog for the past two years. After another trip to the ER this May, they finally decided it was time to start the process of finding the right dog. PTSD service dogs can provide key support that reduces the intensity of panic/stress/anxiety, and lower medical costs in the long term. They can also help individuals suffering from PTSD live fuller lives with their families. The Tirrell family is hoping to obtain a PTSD service dog for Nadja that can help her manage episodes when she is alone or in potentially stressful situations such as grocery shopping, church, driving, and social gatherings. A service dog would also allow her husband to feel confident that she has support at home while he's at work providing for their family. With the amount raised, the Tirrell family will be able to purchase a dog with the right temperament and afford the specialized dog training needed. Finding the right dog and obtaining the correct training takes time, and the Tirrell family will need to secure most or all of the funds necessary before applying and beginning the process. $3,500 will go towards advanced, in facility obedience training. It will cost an additional $2000 to complete Public Access training and customized training that teaches the service dog to provide comfort pressure during panic attacks and retrieve the help of another person or a cell phone in the event of an emergency. The cost of a young dog or puppy (of the right breed for service work) with guaranteed good health and calm temperament can range between $1000-$3500. The family has opted to go this route instead of other routes that can cost an average of $20,000 and include a 2 year wait. Any funds collected beyond the goal will go towards the cost of care for the service dog such as a crate, invisible fence, vet visits, ect. Please consider donating to this amazing family that wants to have more happy and healthy moments together. If you cannot donate, please pray that Team Tirrell's fundraising efforts will be successful and pass the fundraiser on! Thank you, and God Bless! In order to comply with GoFundMe's requirements and release the hold on our account, we're including the following information: This account was set up by Jeff Tirrell, Nadja Tirrell's husband. We are from Fenton, Michigan. The way the funds will be used is described above, with some variation in cost regarding the purchase of the dog before training. Funds will be withdrawn into our local checking account, and transferred into a savings account we have set up specifically for this purpose.
