Service Dog for Katelyn

"Oh, the places we'll go...." I was born with a moderate form of Cerebral Palsy and I'm mute. However, it hasn't stopped me from anything; I have a bachelor's degree and I lived independently with My two cats Casper and Clementine. Often times, I take public transit and go places by myself. I travel throughout Dallas alone which makes me a target and vulnerable to criminal activities because I am seen as being asthenic. In fact, my phone was snatched from in between my legs and I was knocked out of my wheelchair onto the ground. The guy was arrested and sits in federal prison. I try to be brave when I'm out in public by myself but it's scary and uneasy sometimes especially being a disabled woman. I have decided to embark on the journey of getting a service dog for my protection and companionship. I have had my heart set on having a German Shepherd to be my service dog for five years now. In my opinion, German Shepherds are a protectors and they are loyal to a fault. About a year ago, I stumbled upon a service dog program which breeds show quality German Shepherds then trains the puppies to be service dogs for people with various disability. The service dog program is privately funded which means there's no waiting list but I have to raise the funds myself. Which brings me to the crowd funding part of the journey. The dog training will cost $12,000 over a two year period. The director of the program does a installment plan while the puppy is in training. The down payment is $2000 that will purchase my puppy and sure me a place in the training program. The director needs the down payment by early September as she has 3 females to be bred soon and wants to insure that I get pick of the litter. Having a service dog will expand my sense of wonder and adventure. I want to learn to travel both domestic and internationally by myself. I hope the dog and me will get to see the world together that in turn will allow us to come best friends for many years to come.
