Train to serve with Heart, Might, Mind, & Strength

Missionaries... ready to serve with… Heart,  Might,  Mind,  &  Strength!

“What are we supposed to do during this time allotted for physical fitness/training?  We only have 30 minutes and limited resources.  How can I make this time most effective, and what do I do??"

This question from a healthy and active missionary (and we’ve heard it now from many Sisters and Elders) made us stop and think about the limited resources full-time missionaries serving for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints have to work with to help them accomplish their goals in the areas of Fitness and Nutrition.

"Make exercise part of your daily routine, 30 minutes/day."  (New Missionary Handbook)

We’ve shared this full story with many of you, all with the same positive response and willingness to help and support StrongCorps' efforts.  Looking at many ways to move forward with this greater cause, we ultimately decided a GoFundMe campaign would give you the opportunity to participate personally in this shared optimism and interest, helping to create effective fitness and nutritional tools and resources for missionaries worldwide.

Excited to share this with you and thank you for your continued help and support.  Don’t miss below how we plan to reward you for your contributions...

StrongCorps GOALS:

*Build a "shipping container" BOX GYM to train and work with youth and local missionaries in the Newport Beach, CA Mission area.

*Develop a Foundational & Functional Fitness Program and APP for youth to easily learn from and train with - prior to missions, to utilize on their missions, and to continue with post-mission.

*App to include a “DO HARD THINGS” category with suggestions and challenges.

*Work towards a Missionary approved app to include planning, training, coaching, tracking, and educational resources in fitness, nutrition, and mindset.

*Build available resources, and offer “bag of equipment and tools” for youth and missionaries, to help them accomplish their fitness and training goals.

*FITNESS & TRAINING

*HEALTHY NUTRITION

*MINDSET & MENTAL STRENGTH

"I really believe that physical health is important like spiritual, mental, and emotional health.  Our bodies are a temple for our minds and our spirits.  I find that if I’m physically fit, I am more prepared to feel the spirit, I’m more positive, have more energy and have confidence that I’m doing what I can to take care of the body I’ve been blessed with.  My physical condition is so critical to my overall health.  The exercise doesn’t need to be significant.  I need at least 30 minutes of cardio each day.  The more consistent exercise I do, the more control I have over my body and mind.”  ML (Returned Missionary)

“First, one must be educated and know what to do, and then have the capability of executing on it.”

Our primary goal is to build a program to enable success, to help missionaries meet their fitness goals.  We will work directly with the missionaries in the Newport Beach, CA Mission, under the direction of the current Mission President, to define, refine, and implement the program.  With direction and support from the Missionary Department and Leaders of the church, our vision is to scale a successful and efficient program to be available and used by missionaries worldwide.

StrongCorps VISION:

To help the youth and missionaries see the greater physical, even mental potential and power that lies in each one of them…that they can do more and be more.  To ultimately motivate them to...

“RISE UP AND BECOME THE PERSON THEY WERE DESIGNED TO BE!”  Dieter F. Uchtdorf

Many have not had a full opportunity to learn the fundamental skills and importance of fitness, training, and or nutrition.  They struggle learning what to do and how to execute it into an organized plan to then use.  Missionaries are given 30 minutes for physical exercise daily.  Many report "not knowing how to utilize that time, or what to do ~ to make it productive and effective."

We would give these young men and women a program containing the tools, education, and awareness needed - through an approved app on their smartphones, online resources, and even printed format, to use in preparation for their missions and while they are out serving as full time missionaries.   The allotted timeframe of 30 minutes/day is great, to learn more about fitness and health, and to consistently put that information into action.

They can stand a little taller, with more energy and spirit, having greater confidence, and have more in them to give to others.  This opportunity to teach them young will only increase their potential for future success as adults, and instill healthy lifestyle habits.

Our bodies are truly a blessing.  We are lucky to have the opportunity to develop them into their greater physical potential and develop positive exercise habits.  When we apply what we know about this amazing potential, we can't help but strengthen the body, energize the mind, and uplift and strengthen the spirit.

Words from a few Missionaries we have personally worked with…

“I am so glad I decided to make this change.  I feel better than I have in a very long time.  I have more energy, I'm less tired, more focused for longer periods of time, and I do feel a stronger connection to the spirit because my senses aren't clogged with things that dull spiritual sensitivity.  Has it been hard?  Absolutely!  Is it worth it, more than you know!  To sum things up, being able to prove to myself that I can handle and do hard things has been a huge blessing.”  EA

“Time went by and I started to enjoy working out in the mornings, but it wasn't until that very next transfer that I landed in San Clemente.  At this moment things just started to click with me.  I realized that when I ate healthy and had a good workout - my day was a hundred times better.  I could focus during my studies, I felt guided by the spirit more than ever, and I felt that I was becoming who my Father in Heaven wanted me to become.  It was incredible and in fact so good that I started to look forward to the time where I could exercise physically to prepare myself for spiritual exercise.  This is what truly energizes us to do the Lords work.  When we feel good we do good.”  CV

Fitness combined with healthy nutrition and a positive mindset have such a powerful effect on the success, confidence, energy, and overall well being of an individual - especially a missionary.

We get it... because we experienced these things for ourselves and want to help make a difference for others!

Our StrongCorps Team each have a story, experiences, talents, skills, education, and contributions - which have all brought us together to work towards our goals and vision for the youth & missionaries.

We also know that the power of our work comes from a collaboration of our efforts, along with other experts in the fields of Fitness, Nutrition, & Mindset Training.  We plan on bringing these resources together in one place - creating together with the support of LDS Mission Leaders, a resource to strengthen, teach, and empower the missionaries worldwide.

Our TEAM:  DAVID MAREADY  -  ALEX WASSOM  -  SEAN TURNER  ...and more!

“Take responsibility for your own physical well-being. Your soul consists of your body and spirit. Feeding the spirit while neglecting the body, which is a temple, usually leads to spiritual dissonance and lowered self-esteem. If you are out of shape, if you are uncomfortable in your own body and can do something about it, then do it!”  ~ Jorg Klebingat

Russell M. Nelson has taught that we should “regard our body as a temple of our very own” and that we should “control our diet and exercise for physical fitness.”

Boyd K. Packer has taught “that our spirit and our body are combined in such a way that our body becomes an instrument of our mind and the foundation of our character.”

“Therefore, please use good judgment in what and especially how much you eat, and regularly give your body the exercise it needs and deserves. If you are physically able, decide today to be the master of your own house and begin a regular, long-term exercise program, suited to your abilities, combined with a healthier diet.  Spiritual confidence increases when your spirit, with the help of the Savior, is truly in charge of your natural man or woman.”  ~ Jorg Klebingat

Missionaries of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church) - widely known as Mormon missionaries—are volunteer representatives of the LDS Church who engage variously in proselytizing, church service, humanitarian aid, and community service. The mission assignment could be to any one of the 400 missions organized worldwide.

The LDS Church has more than 65,000 missionaries worldwide. Most full-time LDS missionaries are single young men and women in their late teens and early twenties and older couples no longer with children in their home. Missionaries are often assigned to serve far from their homes, including in other countries, and many learn a new language at a missionary training center as part of their assignment. Missions typically last two years for males, 18 months for females, and 1 to 3 years for older couples.  All LDS missionaries serve voluntarily and do not receive a salary for their work; they typically finance missions themselves or with assistance from family or other church members.
