Hello, my name is Neva and my husband (Donald), who is 57, was admitted to the hospital on August 30th for total heart failure. After being there a couple of days, he ended up having several (11) G.I. bleeds. He almost died and had to be given 4 pints/units of blood as he had lost so much of his own. He was finally discharged on September 10th, just to be home for two days before ending up back in the hospital on the 12th of September due to the continuing heart failure, as they did nothing with that due to the G.I. bleeds. When admitted, they discovered he was in respiratory failure. He was finally discharged yet again today, the 17th of September. We are both living on a very limited income due to both being fully permanently disabled. His insurance is basic state Medicaid, and they will not cover two major items he is in need of, one being a life recliner as he cannot stand on his own (severe weakness from the blood loss and heart failure, which he is still currently active with per the doctors). He already has 7 heart stents. He has a lot of health issues. The other medical item needed that they won’t cover for him is a toilet riser with handles. Sample pics of the two main items we have not been able to get him so far are included. While he was there this last time, they did a head scan on him due to him falling the two days he was home but was unable to stand up to go to the bathroom. In that scan, they found that he has parenchymal atrophy and chronic vessel disease, which the doctor explained are eventually associated with dementia and/or Alzheimer’s disease, so that’s another thing we have to look forward to in the future. He has a lot of health issues already, and now these. He is diabetic, has hypertension, COPD, asthma, a history of strokes/TIA, fall risks, spinal issues (ankylosing spondylitis, bulging discs, deterioration bone and disc disease), neuropathy, congestive heart failure, a history of heart attacks, lung cancer, prostate cancer (in remission), gastrointestinal issues (GERD, gastroparesis, Barrett’s esophagus), cardiovascular disease, and now added respiratory disease and peripheral artery disease. You name it, he pretty much has it, sadly. We appreciate and are thankful for any help, and he appreciates prayers.
We are asking for community help with obtaining these two major items to help him to stay in the home with me and help him to be able to still live a life of some mobility. If you cannot donate, we totally understand. He just asks for prayers.
