This story is in English and in Russian.

We are helping raise money for our dear friend, Serezha, who, as a member of a volunteer humanitarian mission in Eastern Ukraine, fell under heavy Russian shelling and sustained severe injuries. Unfortunately, as a result of the shelling, Serezha has had to have both of his legs amputated.

The details of this horrific event are widely available in the stories we've linked below. In short, on May 7th, 2022, Serezha traveled with a volunteer organization to deliver aid and essential supplies to villages outside the Kharkiv region. Despite the fact that this was clearly a humanitarian mission by a group of civilian volunteers, Serezha's convoy was shot by the Russian army with defensive mortars and Uragan multiple launch rocket system. As a result, several volunteers were badly injured, including our friend Serezha.

Thankfully, Serezha was immediately taken to a hospital in Kharkov, and then Doctors Without Borders was able to organize transport for him to Germany for treatment. However, the road to recovery for Serezha is long, and we want to help him and his family with the cost of prosthetic limbs and any other costs that come with such an intense recovery process.

We have been friends with Serezha's parents for more than 40 years. We went to university together in Moldova. Life scattered us across different countries, but we are still very close. Our heart breaks for this young man, who we've known since he came into this world.

Serezha's actions in Ukraine and those of all volunteers in Ukraine are nothing short of heroic, and we're continually awed by his strong spirit during his recovery process. We want to help Serezha get back on his feet in the truest sense of the word.

Prosthetic limbs are very expensive. Therefore, we ask everyone who reads these lines for help - any amount helps.

Serezha is still so young. He has his whole life ahead of him. Let him thrive under the peaceful sky of his beautiful country of Ukraine.

Here is more information about the volunteers and what happened:
