We are Sheffield Engineers Rugby club and recently we named our club charities for the upcoming season as the YPMHC (Young People’s Mental Health – The William Templeton Foundation) and CALM (Campaign against living miserably). Both are mental health charities that were suggested and voted for by our members as supporting causes close to the club’s heart and ethos.
To kick off our year’s campaigning, we are running and cycling the distance from the spiritual home of rugby - SERFC HQ to each and every one of the premiership clubs, totalling 2670km.
In the tragic worldwide Covid crisis that has absorbed all of our lives, many charities have lost the majority of their fundraising opportunities which has severely reduced the help they can give to those most in need. This combined with the fact that the UN has said the coronavirus IS and will continue to cause a mental health crisis both in the UK and worldwide is why mental health charities need as much support as possible right now. We want to follow on from the positivity of Mental Health Awareness week and a raise a massive amount of money to support those most in need.
YPMH – The William Templeton Foundation
Set up in memory of William Templeton, who had a school friend within our club, YPMH works to ‘join up’ excellent research and practice across many fields associated with young people’s mental health to improve prevention, identification, diagnosis and treatment of conditions such as depression and anxiety. They do this by bringing together key groups such as researchers, regulators, support workers, governments, young people and their families, in order to increase awareness, generate ideas and increase the adoption of innovations in practice and policy.
CALM
Campaign against living miserably is a charity that aims at preventing suicide. They do this by running a helpline for anyone to call about life’s problems, running awareness campaigns and help strengthen communities by spreading a message to help people share their experiences and seek help before they reach a crisis point. Calm was recommended numerous times by our members as it has helped them and many of their friends and family.
The money raised in this fundraiser will be split evenly between both of our chosen charities, as will all our fundraising efforts throughout the year. We really appreciate any donations no matter how large or small, to 2 causes we hope you agree are incredibly important, and hope some sweaty selfies can bring some smiles in these terrible times
Thank you
