Aloha! My name is Serenity.
I live on this small Hawaiian island serving as the resident psychologist at the Lanai Community Health Center. I am also an avid yoga practitioner and teach community classes in my spare time. I take delight in encouraging others to listen to and nurture their bodies and to take compassionate care of themselves. Two and a half months ago I discovered that I have a non-invasive type of breast cancer called DCIS or Ductal Carcinoma in Situ. As a person who naturally places the needs of others ahead of my own, asking for your support is a huge step for me. Breast cancer has opened an opportunity to take my own advice to heart.
Immediately upon hearing the news of cancer I wanted to try to heal naturally, so with the help of my best friend Stephanie, I embarked on a natural healing diet modeled after Gerson therapy. Together we practiced nurturing ourselves with natural foods and listening deeply to our bodies needs, letting go of preoccupation with "doing." After 30 days on the diet, my doctors informed me that I would still need treatment, and they recommended mastectomy. This news hit home, and I have now come to recognize that this surgery is the best option for me at this point. The mastectomy will eventually be followed up by reconstructive surgery. These two surgeries will require at least 4 weeks of rehabilitation on Oahu for which I will need full time caretakers. My dream is to go to the Gerson clinic after my surgery and engage in a 3 week cleanse to allow my body the deep healing I believe itʻs really asking for.
If you choose to support my Gofundme campaign, I will use the funds to pay for the costs of surgeries and treatment, flights and meals for my caretakers as well as lost time from work for both myself and my caretakers. If I end up needing chemotherapy and radiation, the funds will also be used to pay for these treatments. If I should raise enough funds, I would also like to use the funds to pay for a 3 week Gerson treatment in Mexico.
Thank you all for being a part of my journey! I have so much gratitude for all the support, blessings, prayers and love I have received during this difficult time. I will continue to allow this journey with cancer to be a grand opportunity for deep healing and transformation!
Mahalo nui loa, many blessings, namaste,
Serenity
