Serena's Post-Burglary and Moving Fund
Donation protected
hi! my name is serena, i've lived in my current home in decatur since july 2020, and i desperately need help to leave.
Sometime between monday january 15th 2023 and tuesday january 16th, my home was invaded and robbed while i was staying with my partner. i returned home that tuesday morning to my personal belongings ransacked and destroyed after multiple unknown intruders forced entry through a locked bedroom window. they managed to steal an entire standing safe weighing multiple hundreds of pounds that contained assets i needed to pay my bills and maintain my personal business, including but not limited to a large amount of cash from sales, my passport, social security card, and birth certificate, some firearms i kept for home self-defense, and a few personal items of moderate resale value. luckily, my cats and dogs were not at the house when the robbery occurred, and i am so very grateful that neither they nor i were physically harmed in the process.
i am physically disabled and chronically pained. i have been able to sustain myself the past few years with the work i do from home, and even then just barely. Due to the items that were stolen I will be unable to continue working from home, safely or otherwise. I am having to reenter the workforce in order to continue to provide myself, a particularly risky endeavor since i am terrified of developing long COVID and further complicating my already complicated health issues.
i'm asking for community support because i have very few options left available to me in my current financial state and need assistance to fund the major life changes that this event has precipitated. I am looking to move out of this home, as it has now been repeatedly targeted by intruders and I fear for my safety and the safety of my pets.
the help you provide me by donating to my gofundme will help me exit my current situation quickly and fund a variety of critical necessities such as:
• bills and utilities
• food and medications
• pet supplies and vet bills
• moving expenses
• mental health therapy and continuing medical care
• security deposit, rent, and fees associated with finding a new place to live
• fees for replacing my stolen passport
any funds left over from my fundraising campaign after these critical elements are paid for will be used to help me get back on my feet and restart life in a new, safe home.
Important to note: i am not interested in collecting money for replacement of the firearms that were stolen. a report with dekalb county police department has already been filed for these items, and i'd rather let the possibility of them being recovered in the future play out on its own while i put these funds towards far more pressing needs.
i cannot express enough how grateful i have been for my community to show up for me the way they have in the wake of this terrifying event. i'm humbled by the way those close to me along with acquaintances and strangers have supported me and offered their help in every shape and form they are able to. please know that every donation you make, no matter how big or small, brings me one step closer to securing a safer home for myself, my pets, and my loved ones.
if you have any questions, or wish to offer your help in ways that are not monetary, please do not hesitate to message me.
all my love,
serena
