Please help us show support and love for Kathryn and Justin during this extremely difficult time.

Serena Wednesday Smith, 23, passed away Thursday, September 22, 2022 in Atlanta, GA.

Serena was a beautiful, intelligent, determined young woman. She was a kind soul and cherished friend to many. To know her was to love her.

She attended Normal Park for Elementary and Middle School then East Ridge for High School. She played clarinet in the band at Normal Park and was on the soccer and track teams up until college. Serena was a captivating soccer player to watch. You never knew if she was going to trip or score yet another goal. Her numerous athletic accomplishments included making the all regional soccer team all four years of high school and competing at State for track three years; twice for hurdles and three times on the relay team.

She attended the University of Tennessee Knoxville where she graduated this past May with a Bachelors of Science in Aerospace, Aeronautical, and Astronautical Engineering. While in college she put her brilliant mind to use working as a Creative Balloon Artist making stunning backdrops for special occasions. She was a member of the Argonia Cup Rocket Design Team and of the AIAA Design, Build, Fly Team that competed in Kansas this past April.

She is survived by her mother, Kathryn Ross; twin brother Darian Smith (Liz) and younger brother Van Sigman; maternal grandparents, William and Norma Ross; maternal great grandmother, Carolyn Strange; aunt, Elizabeth Towles (Louis), cousin, Ada Towles and her brother’s father, Justin Sigman, who was a father figure.

She is preceded in death by her maternal great-grandfather, James Strange.
