It is the phone call every parent fears. Serena was a front seat passenger in a right hand drive car that hit a lamp pole on Thursday, May 16, 2019 and sustained severe injuries to her lower left leg and foot. She was rushed into emergency surgery at Princess Margaret Hospital, Nassau, The Bahamas to save her leg.
On Friday, May 17 Serena was airlifted to Ryder Trauma Center, Miami, Florida where she required numerous blood transfusions due to internal bleeding and surgery to repair her liver. Serena has received a number of CT / MRI scans, numerous rounds of leech therapy, an angiogram and other medical treatments/procedures all to assist with her recovery. Today, Serena is still at Ryder Trauma Center, Jackson Memorial Hospital taking baby steps to regain her mobility and motor function in her leg and foot.
Serena is a 2018 graduate of St. Augustine's College and recently completed her first year at the University of The Bahamas majoring in BioChem and is looking forward to her sophomore year in August.
Serena is known for her beautiful smile, bubbly personality and full- of- life energy. She is an animal lover and has volunteered at the Bahamas Humane Society for a number of years. She loves volleyball, sailing and swimming and was a member of Alpha Aquatics Swim Team.

Serena’s mother, Felena Burrows, is the primary breadwinner and provider for Serena and her 13-year old brother, Dylan.
As you can imagine, the mounting out of pocket medical expenses, travel expenses and extensive physical therapy Serena will require to walk again are overwhelming. We would be extremely appreciative and grateful for any financial support to aid in the cost of Serena's medical expenses. We ask that you continue to lift Serena up in prayer for a full recovery - physically, emotionally and spiritually.

On behalf of Serena's family, we would like to personally thank each and everyone who has called, emailed, text, visited and reached out to Serena and her family during this time. Words cannot express our gratitude for the overwhelming response of love and support we have received which has made this ordeal more bearable.
Thank you once again for your continued support and prayers!
