Serage and Crisis Relief for Lebanon
Spende geschützt
5 Aug 9:36pm PT: As an update to this page, Serage and his family have received the help they need to cover their medical expenses. Serage has asked that 100% of the money raised on this page goes to aid the thousands suffering as a result of the blast. The funds will go to a list of crisis relief NGOs in Lebanon that Serage is currently compiling. It will be shared here in another update shortly. Currently, the death toll has risen to 135 and the number of injured has reached 5,000 (see Al Jazeera article). 300,000 people in the area are now homeless because of the blasts.
--------
On 4 Aug, an explosion in Beirut, Lebanon shook the city. A member of our Stanford, MIP, and Knight-Hennessy community, Serage Amatory, thankfully, was out on a walk with his mother and he and his family largely avoided the explosion's direct impacts. Additionally, thankfully, he had recently moved apartment buildings, because the one he previously had been living was severely damaged in the blast. Unfortunately, despite the many people who were killed, injured, and displaced because of the blast, many in Lebanon are upset because of the government's lack of transparency regarding the blast. Lebanon’s healthcare system is also struggling to cope with the fallout from yesterday’s disaster.
In addition to this recent blast, Serage, who has been living in Lebanon since March, has been suffering from power outages and other signs of the economic doom that Lebanon currently faces.
We will be collecting donations to go to Serage and to crisis relief programs in Lebanon such as the Red Cross. The money that exceeds the financial needs of Serage and his family will be donated to Lebanese crisis relief organizations as Serage's discretion.
If you have the capacity to donate, please do so here. In addition or in place of a financial donation, feel free to reach out to Serage with messages of love, support, and comfort.
Thank you for taking the time to read this.
