Sequilla's CGM Fundraiser
Donation protected
On Sunday August 7th Sequilla, 15, had a severe hypoglycemic episode that almost took her life. Her little brother Storm found her unresponsive in bed. Mom and Dad, Jenn and Matt, could not revive her on their own and the paramedics had to be called. After multiple unsuccessful attempts the paramedics were able to start an IV of glucose which very thankfully brought her back to full conciousness.
Sequilla has type 1 insulin dependent diabetes, as well as a condition called hypoglycemic unawareness that prevents her from feeling her low blood sugars consistently. In this case she slept through a low for an extended duration.
Technology exists to monitor Sequilla's blood sugar around the clock every 5 minutes up to 288 readings per day. Continuous Glucose Monitors(CGM) allow the user to set alarms for out of range sugars. Sequilla's endocronoligist submitted a special authority application on her behalf, unfortunately both BC Medical Services Plan and her family's private insurance companies have refused to cover this technology. Sequilla and her family need your help. Her out of pocket medical expenses already total approximately $1200 per month. They do not have the capacity to take on this additional monthly cost without outside help.
The money raised from this campaign will allow Sequillla's family to purchase the equipment- transmitor and receiver (approx $2,500 start up) and the monthly supplies - disposable sensors (approx $400 per month) for the first year. The funds will be provided to Sequilla’s mom Jenn to purchase the equipment and supplies on her behalf.
The funds are required as soon as possible. Since the incident Sequilla, who also suffers from clinical anxiety, has been afraid to go to sleep or to be alone in her room. Her little brother Storm has been sleeping on a mat next to her bed and her mom and dad have been doing round the clock blood sugars to keep her safe and feel confident enought to sleep for short periods of time. A CGM would provide Sequilla and her family enormous piece of mind, allow them all to get a full night's sleep, and would prevent another near miss or perhaps fatal hypoglycemic episode from happening again.
Sequilla is a beautiful, intelligent, compassionate soul with a passion for performing arts and many dreams and goals for her future. Sequilla is a model of tonacity, courage and resilience. She has risen above so many challenges and lives a full life despite her multiple disabilities. We all want desperately to see her live a long life and shine her God given light for a very long time!
Thank you so very, very much for considering supporting this amazing girl and contributing to her fundraising campaign!
