SEQUENCE ACADEMY

SEQUENCE is launching SEQUENCE ACADEMY with the mission to offer an alternative and innovative space where children and adolescents of Tepecoyo, El Salvador can experience free workshops in arts and technology (from basic computing to coding.)

This marks the beginning of a long-term project focused on children and adolescents to be able to learn skills that will allow them to coexist with equity and become agents of change in their community and our country. We are starting in the community of Tepecoyo and hope to replicate it in communities across our country in the future.

In 2011 together with Oscar Bautista and Natali Orellana we started SEQUENCE inside their community of Tepecoyo, with the mission to disrupt the cycle of violence that limits at risk youth. Together in the past 7 years we have focused on providing employment opportunities and training programs for the young men and women who work at SEQUENCE in Screen Printing, Graphic Design, Embroidery, Cut and Sew,  Basic Computing and Jewelry Making.

Oscar and Natali’s dream has been to have a space inside their community that we could open and welcome kids and young adults to participate in free workshops. Knowing that there is a lack of these type of learning spaces, together we have seen the need to act and open SEQUENCE ACADEMY. We believe we can offer children and adolescents a new educational paradigm that is comprehensive and based on a culture of peace that involves harmonizing all the levels that shape a person: physical, emotional and intellectual.

In the past months we created a pilot version of our SEQUENCE ACADEMY to see the response we would get in the community and we are thrilled to have 30 young boys and girls attending our  free arts program every Saturday taught by Oscar and with Cruz Montes and Yuri Grimaneza (SEQUENCE employees)  volunteering as mentors.  We have seen the increase of young boys and girls coming to our space to ask if they can join.

We are now raising money to launch  SEQUENCE ACADEMY programs on January 2018 which will be given every Friday and Saturday. The money we raise will be used to purchase materials and machinery for our programs (estimated total of $15,000) as well as cover fees for the instructors for each program (estimated total of ($25,000)

We have envisioned to launch the following workshops for boys and girls age 2 - 16.
