Hi, I'm Meredith and I'm raising money to send my son's VEX IQ robotics team to the World Championship in Dallas, TX. In case you have never heard of VEX IQ, it is a robotic competition where elementary and middle school kids work in teams to play a game. They must build and program a robot made out of VEX robotics parts, then learn how to drive it in an alliance with another team to score the most points. Our team has been working hard all year using the engineering process to build the best robot they can. After all of their hard work, they were able to win the State Competition and will be the only team representing Illinois at this years World Championship.
A little about the team. The Marshmallow Menagerie consists of 4 girls and 1 boy which is unusual for a robotics team. During competition season, they meet up to three hours a night to work on their robot! That's quite the commitment. The team has a goal this year to be division finalists. That means, they will need to be one of the top 20% of teams. Last year, they made it only to the top 50. This year, they have a game plan that they are confident will get them to their goal.
Your donation will help offset the costs of attending VEX IQ Worlds. The entry fee for the team this year hs increased to $1800 and hotel rooms are over $200 a night for a week. We also have to travel to Dallas from Illinois and coordinate meals for the entire week. It is estimated that each of the five team members will need about $1500 to get themselves and their chaparone through the event. Any amount that you can contribute towards this fee will be greatly appreciated.
