Sensory Kits for Seattle Children's Hospital
Hi! My name is Sydney. I'm a rising 8th grader in the Seattle area. This year I will be called to the Torah as a Bat Mitzvah. Part of my responsibility as a young Jewish community member is Tikkun Olam, which means, Repair the World. After hearing a story about a young patient at a children's hospital on the east coast who endured needles, medical devices and constant poking and prodding for treatments, I reached out to the mother and asked what she felt could have given her daughter a small sense of relief during that time. She explained to me that the sensory experience of these patients is so negative and harsh and there is a lack of positive or recovery sensory experiences. This led to my mitzvah project, the way I will help repair the world. I will be raising money and working with Seattle Children's Hospital to purchase age and environmentally appropriate sensory kits for the children residing there for treatments. Thank you for any donations!
