Several years ago members of St. Nicholas Church in NY began supporting a very rudimentary try at housing seniors in Jarabina/Orjabyna, one of the Rusyn villages of Eastern Slovakia. This nursing home is a unique grass root initiative of the village. It has no endowment. It accepts needy seniors from Jarabina and other towns regardless of their ethnic or religious background. They are charged only a nominal fee. This nursing home (a portion of an abandoned grammar school) is at capacity now housing 17 seniors. The needs are tremendous, but a priority is the purchase of 16 electric hospital beds. They also need a walk-in shower to accommodate wheelchairs (sent to them from the U.S.). To put this plea into Westernized understanding…..this is a TRUE start up idea, concept, and necessity. You can imagine easily that more space is needed every day. Please support this humanitarian project.
