Hi, my name is Nancy Erickson. I’m a young senior (67) and currently facing a difficult moment in life. I was laid off in 2024 from my position as a Branch Office Administrator after two years. While I received Employment Insurance for a time, the job market has been very tough—even with decades of corporate and legal experience.
Right now, I have two hopeful leads with Costco and Telus, which I’m incredibly grateful for. But until something materializes, I am struggling to cover basic expenses.
I’m currently registered with the Calgary Food Bank, and I’m thankful for Guru Nanak Kitchen, which offers free food on weekends—used only when absolutely needed. I’ve had to adapt to eating once or twice a day, and I’m doing my best to care for my beloved 16-year-old cat who has hyperthyroidism. Pet food is limited, but I make do with what I can find.
In early November 2024, I was evicted from my home after falling behind on rent. My former landlord, who owns 60 rental properties, was verbally and mentally abusive. Thankfully, a kind friend took me in, and I stayed in Okotoks for three months. I’m now living in a studio apartment in Seton, which is more affordable than many areas in Calgary. Despite the challenges, I remain deeply grateful for what I have.
I’m also a member of Fish Creek United Church, where I find solace, a few weekly food items, and a wonderful community that lifts me up in prayer. Their support and my circle of friends keep me going.
I’m humbly reaching out for help to get through the end of the month bills and the next two weeks—whether it’s financial support or employment connections. Any donation, share, or act of kindness is deeply appreciated.
NAMASTE . Thank you from the bottom of my heart ♥.
