Senior Pup Roxie Needs Surgery to Come Home
Hi friends,
I'm writing this with a heavy heart and a lot of hope. My sweet dog, Roxie, just turned 14 years old on Friday — but our weekend celebrations got cut short and we spent Sunday at the emergency vet.
That morning, Roxie woke me up panting, drooling, pacing, and crying out in pain when she opened her mouth. She couldn’t eat or drink anything. I rushed her to the ER where they found she had a dangerously high fever and severe pain on one side of her face. They couldn’t immediately tell what was wrong — it could be an abscess, a tumor, or something like a foxtail lodged deep in tissue.
They admitted her and started IV fluids, antibiotics, and fentanyl just to get her stable. It cost $3,000 just to keep her overnight, and I had to call my family for help just to get her care started because they would not start without payment in full. I could not let her suffer.
Today we got an update from the vet: her fever finally broke, which means the antibiotics are working. The vet now believes there’s an obstruction behind her eye, most likely an abscess filled with fluid which is why she cannot open her jaw without pain. They can’t rule out a tumor without a CT scan — but that alone costs $5,000.
The more realistic option, and the vet’s current recommendation, is to do a lancing surgery through the roof of her mouth to try to flush and drain what we hope is a benign abscess. That surgery is about $1,100. If it works, she can come home with pain meds and antibiotics, and I can start feeding her soft, pureed food until she can open her mouth and eat on her own again. This surgery starts today at 3:30pm. Please pray for my girl.
I'm doing everything I can to keep her afloat, but these medical bills are more than I can handle alone. I never thought I'd be in this position, but I'm very humbly asking for help. Roxie is family — she's been by my side for 14 beautiful years from TN to CO to CA. I just want to give her the best shot at healing and being comfortable at home.
Every donation, big or small, helps. Even a share can make a difference. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for helping me fight for Roxie. ❤️
