I came across a post of a senior pittie named Winston a couple weeks ago on Instagram. Winston had been found as a stray and in the shelter for 610 days. He was adopted from the shelter on the 610th day to only be found on a Craigslist post 30 days later as "anyone want this dog?"
To make things worse, Winston was then found abandoned and brought to the shelter. The Passaic Animal Shelter welcomed him back with loving arms. Winston remained in the shelter for another 100+ days.
A shelter is for no dog to be, but especially for seniors. They should be living out their golden years loved, held, and seen. When I heard of Winston's story, I could not get him out of my mind. I was so worried that he could end up in the wrong hands yet again. I knew I could not let that happen to him and so my rescue (Panama Paws Dog Rescue) pulled him from the shelter. Winston was a staff favorite at Passaic and he is truly full of love. He loooves to be pet and loves to be around people. He is decompressing and getting used to his new environment at our rescue. He is getting tons of attention and the love he has always deserved. He is such a sweet boy!
Winston is about 9-10 years old we think. And because he has lived a life of neglect, we are going to try our best to catch him up on whatever he needs medically. Below is a list of what we hope to accomplish for him.
His first vet appointment is on April 16th, which includes an orthopedic exam on his back legs as well. He can walk, but we can tell he is in discomfort and possibly pain. His back right leg is not in great shape and we suspect it is a torn ACL. He may need surgery or lots of physical therapy. Or both! He is definitely in need of a serious dental. I would like to get him see by an ophthalmologist because his eyes look a little cloudy. We will be getting him a senior blood panel. He is also not neutered and will see what the vet advises.
All of this will be very expensive and we want to start fundraising for Winston so that he can get whatever he needs to feel his most comfortable in his senior years. We want to get him feeling good!
I will know more this coming Wednesday at his vet appointment and will be updating you all with every step of the way, including estimates and invoices for whatever he receives. You will see exactly where your donation will be going! Thank you all so so much! No donation is too small!
