Senior Couple victims of the Prestwick Place fire in Calgary

Hi, my name is Marilú Vallejo and this fundraiser is for my parents. They recently decided to move permanently to Canada because my dad's cancer has come back and he needs to receive continuous treatment here. They are 70 and 80 years old. My husband and I decided to use most of our savings towards a downpayment for a condo for them and we had just purchased the unit at Prestwick Place on June 10th. Since the unit was still vacant, no one wanted to sell us home insurance. On June 24th, 2024, before anyone had a chance to move in, we woke up to the news of a huge fire that had destroyed most of the condo building.

While my parents did not lose any belongings, they cannot afford to pay the mortgage now in addition to the rent for another place to live. Re-building will take 1.5 to 2 years. They don't have insurance that would cover cost of living expenses. The bank does not want to help us. The condo corporation's insurance will only pay for the re-building and nothing more. My dad really needs to focus on his health so any donation you can give, no matter how small will be very helpful and greatly appreciated from the bottom of our hearts!
