Help Local Senior and His Daughter to stay housed

Hi, my name is Candice. I am helping a local senior and his daughter to find a place to live after learning that the suite they have been renting (with a signed rental agreement) since April 1, 2023 was actually part of an elaborate scam. They have just learned that they were not renting from the homeowner (as they were told) and his property manager and that the actual homeowner had no knowledge that they were living in one of the suites of his 4-plex unit.

The homeowner has asked them to vacate the premises with only 2 weeks notice. Most people in Victoria understand how incredibly difficult and impossible the rental market is here.

There is a very strong chance that they will end up homeless and staying in shelters if they can get shelter beds if they are unable to find housing in less than one week (they were told to leave by September 12, 2023.)

While they are looking, most property management companies do not seem to be replying to emails or requests to book a viewing.

They viewed one small basement suite that had extremely strict restrictions on having any products at all in the home with any type of scents because of an upstairs tenant with a serious health risk.

They had already paid half of their rent to the person who had been posing as the property manager and are now left with only half of what they would have paid for housing for September and they have no way to recoup their damage deposits that they already paid.

I have set up this go fund me in hopes of raising enough money to help them pay a damage deposit and first months rent if they are able to find new accommodations. If they are unable to, they will likely need more funds to pay for a hotel if they can find one at a reasonable rate as well as a storage locker for all of their furniture. Unfortunately, their expenses could go up significantly if we don't find them a place to rent.

Please donate if you can and if you can't please share their story. There is a police file number and the police are investigating but so far, no arrests have been made and the police have not been able to locate the person who started this fraud.
