Senicola Strong
Spende geschützt
For those of you that do not know, Mr. Senicola (beloved Manatee teacher of all things math and science) was recently diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia B-Cell. What started out as several trips to the ER for immense back pain and breathing issues, quickly turned into something much more serious.
This type of illness is more commonly associated with children, and his treatment plan will be with the same intensity and rigor that they would give an an adolescent child with the same diagnosis. While this will be testing his strength beyond comprehendible limits, his team of specialists (one being his sister), are all confident that he can beat this, with the prognosis very optimistic (90-96% remission). For the next 5-7 weeks he will be undergoing chemotherapy treatment at the Sylvester Center in Miami, which is one of the best cancer centers in the U.S.. Due to his inability to fight even the slightest infection, he is obviously doing all of this quarantined away from his loved ones. Of course, in typical Senicola fashion, his concern is always for others and how they are coping.
Mr. Senicola has a long road to full recovery, with many unknowns and variables. When he is finally able to safely return home, he will be continuing out patient chemotherapy. Apart from the physical and emotional strain, the financial burdens will, no doubt, be vast. There will be many unforeseen costs associated with his recovery. It is my hope that, as a community, we can rally around Mr. Senicola and help ease some of those financial worries, allowing him to focus all of his efforts on getting healthy and back in the classroom where he belongs.
There are a select few teachers in every child's life that truly have an impact. Mr. Senicola is that rare teacher. He is the kind of teacher that values each "scholar" for exactly who they are, helping to cultivate and find their strengths: academically, socially and emotionally. He helps build self-esteem where a student might lack confidence or find a subject overwhelming, working tirelessly to help them accomplish their goals. He has turned students that were afraid of math and numbers, into math aficionados. He opens his scholars eyes to the beauty and excitement of science, with his love for the subject impossible to ignore. Mr. Senicola goes above and beyond to make sure that every one of his scholars are a success in all aspects of their lives and has high expectations of each of them. And while he was more than a little reluctant to allow a GoFundMe to be established for him, this will hopefully allow him to see the impact he has had on his students and this community, and perhaps make some of the tough days ahead seem a little brighter. The 4th grade teachers at Manatee have also started a "Senicola Strong" t-shirt fundraiser as well: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1OorSVZA8JLu4UhsNPc4LJxZDm8Mw_THVdDJutGip8S8/viewform?edit_requested=true&fbclid=IwAR1mz7IEsijE2r3GugmRM_y2HP2PPCnrz5N375Pi0wK_JYe75qOarVbx1Yg
