Seneka Locklear Smoke Dance Showcase Special

Osiyo, Hello, my name is Verna Street (Cherokee/Tuscarora) from the Raven Street Dance Studio LLC. I was honored to be asked to serve as the Head Northern Judge at this year’s Gathering of Nations. In keeping with tradition, I wanted to give back to the circle by honoring my nephew, Seneka Locklear. He passed away tragically about a year ago, and he was next in line to be the Chief of the Deer Clan of the Tuscarora Nation in Maxton, North Carolina. He was the epitome of what our youth should strive to be—kind, humble, open-minded, loyal, & strong! Seneka was so proud of his roots. My co-sponsors and I wanted to share his truth and tell his story to GON. We are so excited but we only got the approval recently. We have chosen to sponsor a Men’s & Women’s Smoke Dance Special as an added category to the dance competitions. Your donation will help pay for the prize money, travel expenses, championship jackets, & other expenses that it takes to sponsor a special of this caliber. For every $10 donated your name will be added to a drawing for a special prize to be drawn when we call the winners of the Seneka Smoke Dance Showcase on Saturday Night LIVE at this years Gathering of Nations!!
