Hello Family and Friends,
Many years ago I made up my mind that I wanted to go to college in California. Although to many, it seemed like a big challenge, with hard work and the grace of God, I was able to make my dream come true. I now attend Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles, where I am studying Psychology. Since becoming a member of the LMU community, I have joined the Black Student Union and Sisters in Solidarity club. I work for the Office of Black Student Services where I write the newsletter that is sent out every month, and I have my own radio show on the school's KLMU radio station.
Blessings have continued to come my way. This semester, I have been accepted to the study abroad program and will have the opportunity to travel to Accra, Ghana. I will be traveling there the first portion of the summer. I was one of only two freshman accepted into the program and I am so excited for this life-changing experience. At the University of Ghana, I will be studying African Psychology. I will be visiting local museums and slave dungeons, staying overnight with a Ghanaian family and participating in student service projects at clinics, schools and orphanages.
This wonderful experience is sure to help me grow mentally and spiritually. Unfortunately, I do not currently have enough money to attend this trip. I leave for the trip in mid-May, and my goal is to raise $2,600 by May 1st. The total cost of the trip is $6,000 and I have already raised more than half of my expenses. Please consider making a donation to my fund-raising efforts. If you know any organizations that support students in these endeavors please let me know.
