Send It For Stan - #senditforstan

Less than 8 months ago, Stan was living the good life. He was enjoying every day on the Gold Coast. He had a job he loved and spent his weekend’s socialising, driving the streets or under the hood of his pride and joy — his Toyota Sprinter.

But in October 2021, everything changed. This is when he found his swollen & infected gum was actually the big C.

Stan’s Advanced Squamous Cell Carcinoma Cancer came as a big shock to him, his friends and family.

Just three weeks after his diagnosis Stan was whisked into surgery where doctors spent 14 hours removing the cancer and 117 lymph nodes. He then spent months traipsing back and forth from the Gold Coast University Hospital where he endured heavy doses of chemotherapy and radiation treatment.

Stan completed the extensive treatment plan, and his doctors were confident it was enough to give him his life back. Throughout his difficult treatment journey Stan has remained positive. He kept his friends and family updated on everything through his Facebook page. He too was confident he’d get through – referring to his cancer as “just another bump in the road”.

However, two weeks ago, Stan was given some devastating news. During a check-up he was told the neck pain he was experiencing was actually a fractured neck. The cancer was taking over his spine and had fractured his C1 vertebrate.

In a meeting with his doctors, Stan was told his luck had run out. There was nothing more they could do apart from keep him comfortable. He had just a short time to live.

In spite of this prognosis, Stan has remained positive. He is adamant he is not giving up and in spite of it all he has made it back to the Land of the Long White Cloud to be with his kids, family & friends.

This is where we hope you’ll come in.

Last week, Stan boarded a medic-assist charter flight for New Zealand. A general flight from Brisbane to Christchurch was not possible as it was not known if he would survive the flight. Understandably, such a flight did not come cheap and cost his family $60,000.

Stan is the last person to ask for help, that’s why we’re asking for him.

If you can, please contribute to his final wish – to get his beloved car, which he has owned for 23 years, back to NZ to be passed onto his son, Bailey.  Any contribution will also help with the overwhelming medic-assist charter flight & medication costs.  A few dollars or a little more, every little bit will help to take some financial pressure off the family.
