On Sunday, our sweet Demi Dehart started experiencing seizures while the family was visiting Jenn's hometown in Florida. Demi was rushed by ambulance to Studer Family Children's Hospital at Ascension Sacred Heart and has been in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit in Pensacola ever since.
She is still experiencing seizures and specialists believe she has some kind of viral infection that is causing her brain to swell, causing the seizures. Several tests to confirm the virus haven't turned anything up so the cause of her sudden intense illness is still unknown.
Her doctors have stated she will most likely need to remain in the PICU for weeks until the virus has run its course. Upon discharge, whenever that is, Demi will need to be driven home to keep her within a safe distance of medical care. Jenn and Cody are spending every minute they can with her, which includes Jenn staying in FL until Demi is discharged and taking time away from work. Even after she makes it home, there will most likely be extended care with a neurologist due to the severity of her seizures.
The best thing we can do to help this family and little Demi is to keep them and her care providers in our prayers and to help with the sudden financial burden of medical bills and extra expenses getting her home. Anything you can chip in is greatly appreciated and will help lift some of their burdens.
